On December 31, Dunkin’ Donuts released Sabrina’s Brown Sugar Shakin’ Espresso, which was supported by the video below talking about how Sabrina is “Shakin’ that ess’” while she’s shaking a special espresso shaker.

Last year, Sabrina Carpenter’s song “Espresso” was the second most streamed song globally on Spotify and currently has 1.79 Billion total streams. The limited edition drink will be available on Dunkin’s winter menu alongside a special Sabrina Carpenter Espresso Shaker.

Apart from the fun play on the words with “Espresso,” does Sabrina Carpenter make sense for the Dunkin’ Donuts brand?

Dunkin’ Donuts has a very large, broad audience and their latest marketing content aims to be fun, down-to-earth, and sassy. This is a good fit for Sabrina’s quirky personality and audience.

Getting one of the biggest pop stars in the world will help build that Dunkin’ brand love, especially with younger female audiences and all the Sabrina Carpenter die hards. Some people are already reselling the special Sabrina x Dunkin’ shaker online for multiples several times higher than retail price.

Working with talent — musicians, social media stars, athletes — enables Dunkin to tap into the talent’s already existing audience.

Dunkin’ does a ton of signature drinks with cultural figures that have large fanbases, including recent collabs with Ice Spice and Jelly Roll. In 2020, Dunkin’ created a signature drink with Charli D’Amelio that successfully drove a high volume of sales and a large increase in downloads of the Dunkin’ app.

Sabrina Carpenter has a wide reaching audience, deep engagement with a passionate fanbase, and is arguably one of the most culturally relevant people in the world right now. But most of all, her specific persona is a great fit for the Dunkin’ Donuts brand.
